How Can Honey Improve My Health?
Honey is more than just a sweet treat – it’s a natural powerhouse that can significantly improve your health.

By consuming active, healing honey every day, you support a healthy immune system, thanks to the rich antioxidants naturally present in high-quality honey. These antioxidants help fortify your body’s defenses against colds, flu, and stomach bugs. In fact, NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) recommends antimicrobial and antibacterial honey as a first-line treatment for sore throats, coughs, and acute bronchitis.
Emerging evidence suggests that active honey also promotes good gut health. Honey contains prebiotic fiber, which nourishes the beneficial bacteria, fungi, and viruses in your gut – collectively known as the microbiome. Supporting a healthy microbiome helps maintain digestive health, a strong immune system, and even better mental well-being.
Not All Honey Is Created Equal
At South West Honey, we pride ourselves on offering 100% natural, cold-filtered, and unprocessed honey straight from the beehive to the jar. We preserve our honey in its raw form to retain all its natural enzymes and maximize taste and health benefits. Our wild honey is sourced from pristine environments, with minimal handling to maintain its purity.
Our bees forage on Jarrah and Marri trees native to Western Australia, ensuring that our honey is free from pesticides and chemicals. These areas are among the last disease- and pest-free environments in the world, making our honey exceptionally pure and high-quality.
What Is Total Activity (TA)?
Total Activity (TA) is a measure of honey’s antimicrobial effectiveness. The higher the TA rating, the more powerful the honey’s antibacterial properties. Our Jarrah and Marri honeys are graded based on their TA, and they are among the highest-rated TA honeys on the market.
The antimicrobial power of our honey comes from an enzyme called glucose oxidase, which the bees naturally add during honey production. This enzyme reacts with the glucose and oxygen present in the honey to produce hydrogen peroxide, a safe and powerful antimicrobial agent.
Which Level of Total Activity (TA) Is Best for Me?
BOOST – If you're feeling run down, exposed to more germs during cold weather, or traveling, consider choosing a higher TA honey like our Redgum TA10+. This will help defend your immune system with daily use.
SUPERCHARGE – When stomach bugs, sore throats, and coughs make their way through your defenses, it’s time to give your immune system an extra boost. Switch to a higher TA honey like our Redgum TA20+ or Jarrah TA20+ for superior daily support.
